Tshwane District Management Clarifies Arrest Incident in Wierdabrug

GP SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili

Tshwane District Management has issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding a recent arrest in Wierdabrug, which was captured in a social media video showing plainclothes police officers apprehending a suspect.

According to Brigadier Brenda Muridili, spokesperson for GP SAPS, the incident occurred on Friday, 30 May 2025, at approximately 16:30. The Wierdabrug police were engaged in a targeted operation aimed at disrupting suspected drug-related activities in the Valhalla area. During the operation, officers identified a suspect at a location known for drug sales. After introducing themselves, the officers conducted a search, which resulted in the discovery of illegal substances in the suspect’s possession.

Brigadier Muridili explained, “As officers attempted to make the arrest, they faced interference from a man and a woman at the scene. The suspect also resisted arrest, prompting the police to request backup from the local Community Police Forum (CPF). With additional support, law enforcement successfully apprehended the suspect along with the two individuals who had been disrupting the operation.”

She further stated that the 23-year-old suspect has been charged with possession of illegal substances. The two other individuals, both aged 24, face charges of interfering with police duties and malicious damage to property, after allegedly puncturing the left rear tyre of an unmarked police vehicle during the incident.

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to upholding law and order within the community and urge the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement officials during official operations to promote safety and operational efficiency.
