The South African Police Service (SAPS) have concluded an extensive forensic testing on human remains discovered in Rust De Winter, initially believed to belong to a missing Pretoria journalist and his partner.

“SAPS can now confirm that DNA analysis has positively identified the remains as those of Aserie Ndlovu and Zodwa Mdhluli. The confirmation follows a successful match between the remains and reference DNA samples obtained from the victims’ biological relatives,” said Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, SAPS national spokesperson

She added that the positive identification confirms that the remains are indeed those of the missing couple. SAPS has notified both families and expresses its hope that this confirmation brings them some measure of closure.

Seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. They are currently appearing before the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on various charges, including kidnapping, house robbery, and possession of stolen property.
