Open Day at Corobrick Service Centre Draws Strong Community Engagement

The Corobrick Johannesburg Regional G Service Centre hosted a highly successful community open day on Saturday, 7 June, in Ext 10, Lenasia. The event saw a significant turnout of local residents eager to address various service delivery concerns, including water, electricity, billing, and municipal services.

The event commenced at 8:00 AM and brought together multiple municipal departments under one roof, such as Joburg Water, City Power, the Valuations and Registry Departments, and the Expanded Social Package (ESP) team. This collaborative approach aimed to facilitate direct engagement between residents and service providers, enabling immediate resolution of issues.

Clarence Jacobs, Regional Manager representing the Assistant Director, emphasized the initiative’s purpose: *“This is our home here in Region G. We work as a team and take care of one another and the community.”* He expressed satisfaction with the high turnout and gratitude toward all stakeholders involved in making the event a success.

Notably, the open day coincided with Eid, a significant religious holiday for the Islamic community. Despite this, many Muslim residents attended to seek assistance with their service concerns. Jacobs acknowledged their participation, stating, *“I really appreciate them taking the time on such a special day to come out and sort out their queries.”*

By mid-morning, over 150 residents had registered, with additional attendees arriving throughout the day. The majority of those present left satisfied, having their issues addressed on-site. Outstanding cases are scheduled for follow-up starting Monday, with comprehensive reports to be shared once assessments are completed.

Originally planned for May 31, the event was postponed due to logistical challenges. However, officials lauded the revised date’s success, particularly in reaching vulnerable groups such as the elderly, unemployed, and residents eligible for ESP rebates.

As temperatures rose later in the day, the community remained actively engaged, demonstrating a collective commitment to improving municipal service delivery and fostering stronger community relationships.
