SAPS Closing In on Suspect in Murder of IFP Leader


The South African Police Service (SAPS) is making significant progress in the investigation into the murder of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament, Khethamabala Sithole. National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has expressed confidence that an arrest is imminent.

On Monday evening (2 June 2025), General Masemola met with the team leading the investigation, which is headed by Deputy National Commissioner of Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, and Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni. The team provided the National Commissioner with a detailed briefing on the progress made in locating the suspect.

“We know who we are looking for, it’s just a matter of time before we effect an arrest,” said General Masemola. “Our crime intelligence operatives and seasoned detectives are on the ground actively searching for this suspect.”

He further commended the work done by the investigators so far, expressing satisfaction with the volume and quality of evidence collected. General Masemola also issued a direct appeal to the suspect, urging him to surrender to the nearest police station.

The murder of MP Khethamabala Sithole has sent shockwaves through political and civil society. SAPS has assured the public and Sithole’s family that no effort is being spared to ensure justice is served.
