Yoga Day Celebrated with Spirit and Unity at Historic Tolstoy Farm

On Sunday, June 1st, 2025, the Consulate General of India in Johannesburg, in partnership with the Mahatma Gandhi Remembrance Organisation (MGRO), hosted "A Yoga Experience" at the iconic Tolstoy Farm in Lawley. The event began at 10:00 AM and brought together people of all ages in a celebration of health, mindfulness, and community.

Set against the tranquil backdrop of a site closely linked to Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy, the day was a vibrant fusion of physical activity and cultural appreciation. The program drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, with highlights including a dynamic aerobics session and an exciting karate demonstration.

A special yoga session was led by Maya Bhatt from the Consulate General of India. Known for her expertise and passion, Mrs. Bhatt guided participants through a rejuvenating yoga practice that resonated deeply in the peaceful setting of Tolstoy Farm.

The event was especially enjoyable for the younger attendees — around 100 children took part in the festivities, enjoying kite flying, a jumping castle, and other fun activities. Each child also received a goodie hamper filled with sweets, biscuits, and cheese curls.

Participants were treated to meals, fostering a sense of warmth and togetherness. More than just a celebration of yoga, the event emphasized the values of wellness, unity, and historical remembrance — leaving everyone with a renewed appreciation for both personal well-being and the enduring spirit of Tolstoy Farm.
