Two Learners Arrested for Fatal Stabbing Outside Lethabong School

Police have arrested two 19-year-old learners in connection with the fatal stabbing of a fellow student outside the school premises in Lethabong, near Boschkop. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, sending shockwaves through the local school community.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 20 June 2025, where they will face a charge of murder.

According to an earlier statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, the victim, also 19 years old, was allegedly attacked and stabbed in the upper body. He was rushed to the nearest medical facility, but was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigations had police on the lookout for a Grade 12 learner from the same school, identified as a person of interest in the case. It has since been confirmed that two learners have now been taken into custody.

Gauteng Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, confirmed the arrests and emphasized the seriousness with which the police are treating the matter.

> “We can confirm that two suspects, both 19-year-old learners, were arrested following the tragic incident. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Violence within and around school environments is a serious concern, and we are working closely with school authorities and the Department of Education to ensure justice is served,” said Lieutenant Colonel Masondo.

The motive for the attack is still under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with further information to come forward
