On Thursday, 27 November 2025, Jabulani SAPS spearheaded a major festive season initiative in the Johannesburg District, Soweto West. The operation, known as Festive Season Operation Lungisa, was aimed at reducing crime and ensuring community safety during the holiday period.
The operation was led by Brigadier Lefa Tsotetsi as the overall commander, with Lieutenant Colonel Rajesh Balram serving as the operational commander.
The deployment included multiple law enforcement and community safety units working together. Jabulani SAPS contributed officers, members, and vehicles, supported by detectives and the Soweto K9 Unit with a patrol dog. Additional resources included the Siyabangena team, crime prevention wardens, community policing forum representatives, community patrollers, and officials from the Department of Home Affairs and Immigration Affairs. Private security company Tswelepele Security provided personnel, vehicles, and a drone, while the Johannesburg Airwing added aerial support with a helicopter.
The operation resulted in several successes. Multiple arrests were made for drug-related offences, including possession and links to hijacking. Authorities also enforced liquor laws, shutting down an illegal shebeen at Jabulani Hostel and apprehending individuals for trading without a licence. Immigration checks led to the detention of numerous undocumented individuals.
Detectives handled cases involving serious charges such as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, interference with police duties, theft, contravention of protection orders, and attempted murder.
Officers conducted extensive stop-and-search operations, inspecting thirty-one vehicles and seventy-seven individuals. Patrols were carried out at Jabulani Mall and Jabulani Hostel, while carjacking hotspots received focused attention to deter vehicle-related crimes.
