Ekurhuleni Law Enforcement Intensifies Operations to Clamp Down on Crime

Law enforcement agencies in the Ekurhuleni District are making significant progress in their efforts to ensure the safety of residents as criminal activity faces increasing pressure. Detectives demonstrated this success during Operation Shanela II, which ran from Wednesday 26 November to Thursday 27 November 2025, resulting in the arrest of 208 suspects.

During the tracing operations, detectives apprehended 135 suspects for contact crimes, 22 for contact-related offences, six for property crimes, 37 for other serious offences and 39 for gender-based violence. In addition, members of Crime Intelligence working alongside detectives arrested three suspects for drug-related offences.

On Thursday morning, Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole led integrated operations involving SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Siyabangena Patrollers and other stakeholders. These operations, conducted in Dawnpark and Brackendowns, resulted in the arrest of 48 illegal immigrants, the closure of five illegal shebeens, the arrest of four suspects for drug possession and two for drug dealing. Ten individuals were detained for possession of illicit cigarettes, one for possession of dangerous weapons and unlawful ammunition, and 133 traffic fines were issued amounting to R44,200.

Members of Social Crime Prevention carried out door-to-door awareness campaigns, distributed educational pamphlets on gender-based violence and engaged with community members at local malls to address commercial crime, contact crime, property crime and gender-based violence.

Major General Sithole expressed gratitude to all law enforcement officers for their dedication and teamwork in safeguarding the district’s residents.
