TIBA host their annual wellness day

The annual health day of the E.E Patel TIBA Centre was held on October 20, 2024 from 8am to 2pm, at their premises at the intersection of Nirvana Drive and Sastri Close, Ext 5, Lenasia and 450 locals attended. This year's wellness day was held in honour of Ebrahim Talia, a board member who passed away in August.

They provided a number of health testing stations, including blood pressure, cholesterol, body mass index, dental, hearing, speech, and eye exams, as well as medical specialist services.

The Muslim AIDS Program, Islamic Medical Association, Fountain of Inspiration, Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital, and Lancet Laboratories were their wellness day partners.

Speaking to the publication Talia’s son Zunaid said; “As a family we feel extremely honoured to be invited to this event today. This organisation was very close to my father’s heart and he served the organisation for many year. I am very heartened to see the turnout and also the volunteers. My father always had the development of youth close to his heart and it is encouraging and important for the benefit of the community. I like to take this opportunity to thank all the administrators and the people who keep this organisation going.”

Boetie Esack, chairperson of TIBA said; “This centre was opened in November 2007 and we were debating what should we do to celebrate our first anniversary, the idea was eventually that we need to give back to the community and this is how the health day came about and it is an annual event except during the Covid-19 period. It is an event the community of Lenasia look forward to and it is on the Lenasia calendar. I thank all our partners - Muslim AIDS Program, Islamic Medical Association, Fountain of Inspiration, Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital, and Lancet Laboratories and more importantly we thank the public for such an event.”
