Gender Base Violence Awareness program be hosted by National Shelter Movement of SA

The National Shelter Movement of South Africa (NSMSA) will be hosting a Divine Intervention Against Gender Base Violence and Femacide (GBVF) in conjunction with interfaith Action on Monday, 18 November 2024 at the Lenasia Civic Centre on corner Eladn Street and Rose Avenue from 9am to 1pm. They are calling on all religious leaders to participate.

The impact of gender-based violence (GBV) in communities. Gender-based violence plays a pivotal role in shaping societal structures, and its effects are far-reaching. It undermines the social fabric, erodes trust, and perpetuates inequality.

The consequences of GBV extend beyond the immediate victims, affecting families, communities, and entire nations. It can lead to:

1. Psychological and Physical Harm: Victims often face long-term trauma like depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

2. Social Disintegration: GBV can divide communities, with some members committing or accepting violence while others suffer silently.

3. Economic Impact: Violence limits marginalized groups' work participation, lowers household income, and hampers economic development.

4. Cultural Implications: GBV reinforces gender stereotypes and cultural practices that normalize discrimination and violence.
Addressing GBV requires legal reforms, community education, and victim support for a peaceful society.

Anisa Moosa from the National Shelter Movement of South Africa said: "The NSMSA, in partnership with Interfaith Action engages Religious Leaders as important stakeholders on Monday to plan concrete strategies to address GBVF in their communities."
