SAPS Confiscates VW Polo Linked to Murder Case

The South African Police Service (SAPS) crime intelligence unit has successfully discovered and seized a Volkswagen Polo that is allegedly connected to the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale.

According to SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a multidisciplinary team led by the SAPS anti-kidnapping task team confiscated the vehicle at a panel beater workshop in Phoenix, Durban.

The investigation initially directed the team to a lodge in Kew, Johannesburg, where two suspects had booked a room. Subsequent intelligence led them to KwaMashu in Durban, specifically to the home of one of the suspects. The vehicle in question was later located at the panel beater workshop. Upon inspection by SAPS forensic experts, traces of blood were discovered inside the vehicle.

“An elderly man believed to be the owner of the vehicle has been arrested, but police are still searching for two men believed to have been directly involved in the murder of Olorato,” Mathe stated.

The two suspects, Fezile Ngubane and Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhanya, are currently on the run. Members of the public are urged to disseminate their photographs widely to assist in the ongoing police investigation.

The police have issued a warning regarding the suspects, advising that they are considered dangerous and that the public should avoid approaching them. If spotted, individuals are encouraged to immediately contact Brigadier Nama at +27 (82) 778-9035.

General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, expressed gratitude to the team working on the case, which includes the SAPS Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit (PIU), the DPCI KZN Tracking Team, the Durban Metro Police K-9 unit, and private security for their assistance to the SAPS anti-kidnapping task team.

The suspects are urged to surrender themselves at their nearest police station.
