In a bid to optimize water supply and promote equitable distribution across the city, Johannesburg Water has confirmed that certain systems under its management will undergo throttling tonight, 9 January 2025. This strategic measure aims to build capacity and ensure the sustainable management of the city’s water resources.
The throttling will commence at 9:00 PM on 9 January 2025 and is scheduled to conclude around 4:00 AM on 10 January 2025. However, these times are subject to change depending on logistical challenges encountered during the process. The level of restriction will vary, with water supply reductions ranging from 50% to 100%. This will include adjustments to the inlet and/or outlet of various reservoirs, which will affect the water supply to certain areas.
Affected Reservoirs and Towers:
Daily Throttling:
- Lenasia High Level Reservoir
- Orange Farm High Level Reservoir
- Lawley Reservoir
- **President Park Outlet (networks)
- Diepsloot Reservoir
- Illovo Reservoir
Throttling through Scheduled Rotations (as required):
- Fleuhof Reservoir
- Linden 2 Reservoir
- Robertsville Reservoir
- Powerpark Reservoir

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to plan ahead and use water sparingly during the throttling period to minimize any potential disruptions. By managing water use effectively, all customers can help contribute to a smoother and more efficient process.
