Hassen began his career as a teacher in Laudium before moving into journalism, where he has successfully made a name for himself internationally. Over time, he has grown into a skilled journalist, editor, and writer. His unique approach focuses on connecting the experiences of South Africa and India, showing how their histories and cultures influence each other.

Hassen will launch his book, ‘Sau Saal Pehle – A South African Tribute to the Legendary Mohammed Rafi on his Centenary’, at CineCentre, Killarney Mall on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 4 p.m. This highly anticipated event has already sold out.

The iconic singer Mohammed Rafi was known for his versatility in romantic songs, qawwalis, bhajans, and classical music. He was born in 1924 and passed away in 1980 after a successful singing career starting in 1944.

Hassen shared that over 20 singers will perform at the event, each presenting at least one song by Mohammed Rafi, including several duets. The Kashvita Music and Dance Academy will also perform two special dances inspired by Rafi. Attendees will receive complimentary Coke and popcorn, courtesy of the Avalon Group.

While the book will be available for free online after the launch, there is strong interest in a printed version of the 120-page book.

Osman and Shaista from BluBlood have generously sponsored double tickets worth R1,000 for famous stand-up comedian Bassem Youssef, who will perform for one night at Emperors Palace on February 9, 2025.

Hassen concluded by encouraging those with an e-ticket to participate in a lucky draw. Attendees should bring canned or dry food items, such as biscuits or fruit, to receive an entry form, which must be completed and placed in the designated container at the ticket office before the show begins. Partners may enter separately by bringing an item. The draw will take place at the end of the event, and all donations will go to support those in need.
