Eighty-three-year-old Aboo Loonat, a businessman from Johannesburg, was found safe in Lenasia on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He had been abducted on December 7, 2024. His kidnapping shocked the local community, but news of his return has brought great relief.
Crime Activist Yusuf Abramjee reported that Loonat's white Toyota Corolla Cross was located in the Mayfair area, behind his home, close to Khan's Butchery at the intersection of du Toit and Paarlshoop. Abramjee noted that no arrests had been made yet.
Loonat's family shared their gratitude in a statement, appreciating the public's support and prayers during this tough time. They requested privacy to help Loonat recover from his experience. The family emphasized that he is not ready to meet visitors and asked everyone to avoid questions about his abduction.
They concluded by asking for continued prayers for Loonat's health and well-being, promising to provide updates on his condition when suitable.
Attempts to reach Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhani from SAPS for comments went unanswered by the time of publication.
