CIT Robbery took place in Diepkloof

The community of  Immick Drive, Zone 2 in Diepkloof were left in shock when a cash-in-transit van was robbed on 19 March. 

According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Brenda Muridili she said: “It is reported that the cash vehicle was pulling away at the intersection when a VW Polo rammed it on the driver’s side.” 

 

She added that the cash van stopped on the middle island of Immick Drive and a bakkie drove up where the occupants allegedly opened fire on the cash prompting the driver and crew to get out. 

 

It is believed that the suspects then allegedly used explosives to bomb the armoured vehicle before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in three different vehicles. 

 

“A rifle belonging to the security guards was recovered in Baragwanath Road, Zone 2 Diepkloof  One security guard was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.” Lt.Col Muridili ended. 

 

The police are appealing to the public at large who may any  information relating to the incident to call Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or send tip-offs on MySAPS App.
