SAPS Mourns the Loss of Two Tactical Response Team Sergeants

The South African Police Service is in mourning following the tragic death of two Tactical Response Team sergeants who were killed in a single vehicle accident in Witbank, Mpumalanga.

The incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 05 May 2026, while the members were travelling to Pretoria to testify in court. It is reported that the official state vehicle they were using lost control, leading to a fatal crash.

At the time of their deaths, both officers were deployed as part of the eManguzi Task Team in KwaZulu Natal, where they were actively involved in efforts to combat cross border crime. Their work formed part of ongoing operations aimed at restoring safety and stability in the affected areas.

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Dimpane, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased members.

Lieutenant General Dimpane described the loss as a severe blow to the organisation, noting that the two officers served the country with dedication and bravery. He said the thoughts and prayers of the SAPS leadership are with the bereaved families and loved ones during this difficult period.

The SAPS has also expressed its deepest sympathy to the colleagues of the fallen members, particularly those serving within the eManguzi Task Team, who worked alongside them in the fight against serious and violent crime.

The names of the deceased will be released once all immediate family members have been formally informed.

In support of those affected, the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness unit has been dispatched to render psychosocial services to the families and colleagues of the deceased members.
