On Friday, 26 December 2025, the Johannesburg District in Soweto West carried out Operation Lungisa as part of its festive season safety strategy. The deployment included officers and members from Jabulani SAPS, reservists, GTW personnel, and Bhekani Abantu Security teams, along with vehicles to enhance mobility and rapid response capability. This collaborative effort demonstrated the commitment to proactive policing and community protection during the festive season.

Operation Lungisa focused on high-priority locations identified for their increased activity and potential risk during the holiday
s. These areas included Jabulani Hostel, Jabulani Mall, Inhlazane and Merafe Railway Stations, as well as the communities of Zola 1, 2, 3 and North, Zondi, and Moletsane. The presence of law enforcement and security teams in these zones aimed to deter criminal activity and reassure residents and visitors.
