Gauteng police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of a taxi association official in Woodmead, Sandton. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, 4 December 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM.
According to police reports, the victim, a 52-year-old man, was in a parking lot in Woodmead when he and another male were approached by two assailants. The assailants fired multiple shots at the pair, using automatic rifles. Emergency services declared the victim dead at the scene.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo indicated that preliminary findings suggest the attack may be linked to ongoing conflicts between taxi associations in the Alexandra area. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
