Nishtara acknowledges their patients for remaining clean

The Nishtara Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre in Ext 9, Lenasia hosted their 4^th annual awards evening on 23^rdNovember 2019, at the Nirvana Old Age Home Hall. The aim of the awards is to acknowledge patients of their efforts to sustain their sobriety, and a motivation to keep going. Many of the rehab members have been clean for four years and longer and are an inspiration to those who are new and are remaining clean. Something truly inspiring is to see how many of them have their family support which they struggled to have when they were on substance abuse. Families were broken into pieces with the situation but Nishtara is a home that builds relationships again, they make many friends during their rehab sessions, learn to be confident and walk into society with a smile being clean and become a role model to other young people who feel that substance abuse is the way out of problems, causing them to commit a crime.

Greyville Primary School Grade 7 awards

Greyville Primary School, in Ext 2 hosted their annual Grade 7 awards on 25^th November 2019 at school. The categories were sports, academics best subject awards, Grade 7A – 7C top 5 learners, dux awards and not to forget the Rabia Khota (RK) Foundation who awarded the 20 top learners with a medal and scientific calculator. The RK Foundation was started by Khota’s three daughters and one son who all are former learners of Greyville Primary School and also stayed close to the school.

Lenasia Times wishes the Grade 7’s of all schools a great journey to high school and may they prosper from strength to strength.

Lenz High School host their annual teacher awards

The Lenasia Secondary School, in Ext 1, Lenasia hosted their annual teachers awards on 14^th November 2019 at the school where teachers received awards in the following categories: The Raisin Award, The Football Award, The Spark Plug Award, The Band Aid Award, The Vogue Award, The Cobra Award, The Ray of Sunshine Award, The Running with the Bulls Award, The Albert Einstein Award, The Timekeeper Award, The Kool and the Gang Award, The Firing on all Cylinders Award, The Border patrol Award, The Energizer Award, The Abacus Award, The Glass Half Full Award, The Swiss Army Knife Award, The Loud Haler Award, The Smart Cookie Award, Teacher of the Year Award and The Emerging Leader of the Year Award. The theme for the awards was an African Theme, where the teachers played a game and had to answer certain difficult and easy questions and they just had fun away from all the stress of marking final exam papers, teaching in class or preparing for class.

#Diabetes Your Type Campaign Launched in Lenz

On 9^th November 2019, Impala Primary School was packed with people who were waiting to be tasted for glucose, cholesterol, HIV and TB. The campaign was launched and hosted by the pharmaceutical company, Sanofi’s. Their efforts were recognized by the community who were at the school to be tested and hear about Diabetes. Dr. Poobalan Naidoo, a medical advisor at Sanofi’s spoke to the media about diabetes and how it affects both male and females. Dr. Naidoo explained that diabetes is the second biggest cause of death in SA females and significant problem and looking at 3.5 million people suffering from diabetes. 90% of people suffer from Type 2 and 10% suffer from Type 1 Diabetes. Sanofi’s ambassador Pitso Malamane also spoke to the media about living with diabetes for the past 34 years. Samir & Dipalee Somaiya Date rocked Lyric Theatre

Samir and Dipalee Date

The beautiful Samir and Dipalee Somaiya Date, India’s favourite singer couple performed for the very first time on the doorsteps of South Africa on Saturday night, 7^th December 2019 at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City to a packed venue. The Ahmed Timol Secondary, based in Azaadville hosted the first international show to raise funds for the school. The friendly couple kept the crowd entertained with Bollywood songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the latest movie songs. The duo has been performing in more than 300 internationals shows in the past three years. Both are well-known singers and award- winning Bollywood playback singers.

Let’s Twist Again a sold-out show

Let’s Twist Again was a sold-out show on 30^th November 2019 at the Bullion Theatre, Gold Reef City. The show was brought to you by Panache Promotions and Events and Team Shaky Russell. Russell and his team paid tribute to many artists such as Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, Cliff Richard, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Beach Boys, Ritchie Valens, ABBA and many more. Russell is well-known for his role as Elvis Presley and without doubt he is a great look-a-like of the legend Presley.
