The South African Police Service (SAPS) will this weekend honour the lives and service of two police officers who were ambushed and fatally shot while conducting patrol duties in Reiger Park, Gauteng, on Friday, 7 August 2026.
Constable Siphiwe Sibeko and Constable Thapelo Kleinbooi Tlometsane made the ultimate sacrifice in the execution of their constitutional responsibility to protect and serve the people of South Africa.
Their untimely deaths have sent shockwaves through the SAPS family and left a deep void in the lives of their families, colleagues and the communities they served.
The SAPS will host official funeral services to pay tribute to the two officers and recognise their dedication, courage and commitment to their duties.
The Deputy Minister of Police, Dr Polly Boshielo, and the Acting National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lt General Puleng Dimpane, will officiate at the respective official funeral services in Gauteng and Limpopo.
CONSTABLE SIPHIWE SIBEKO
The official funeral service for Constable Sibeko will take place on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at 08:00 at the Civic Centre, Plantation Road, Springs, Gauteng.
The service will provide an opportunity for SAPS members, family, friends and the community to honour Constable Sibeko’s life and remember his dedication and service to the people of South Africa.
CONSTABLE THAPELO KLEINBOOI TLOMETSANE
The official funeral service for Constable Tlometsane will take place on Sunday, 16 August 2026, at Stand No. 40133, Gedroogte Village, Magatle Policing Area, outside Zebediela, Limpopo.
The funeral programme will commence with Part 1 at 06:00, followed by Part 2, the SAPS Official Funeral, at 08:00.
Constable Tlometsane will be remembered for his commitment to policing and his dedication to serving and protecting communities.
SAPS Head of Communications, Major General Nonkululeko Phokane, said the loss of the two officers was deeply felt across the organisation and that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
“Constables Sibeko and Tlometsane served their country with dedication and courage. They answered the call to protect and serve, and tragically paid the highest price in the execution of their duties. Our thoughts remain with their families, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and worked alongside them.
“As the SAPS family, we stand together in mourning and pay tribute to two officers who gave their lives in service to the people of South Africa. Their sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by our men and women in blue every day.
“We honour their lives, their service and their commitment to the communities they served. We will continue to support their families during this difficult period and ensure that their contribution to the South African Police Service is remembered with dignity and respect.”
The SAPS extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of both fallen officers and calls on communities to join the organisation in honouring their lives and service.
