Persistent Rainfall Continues in Johannesburg: Residents Urged to Stay Alert

Residents of Johannesburg are being urged to remain vigilant as persistent rainfall continues to affect the region, leading to flash floods in many low-lying areas. The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (COJEMS) is advising all citizens to exercise caution during their daily activities, particularly when crossing river streams.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely by maintaining a safe following distance and avoiding flooded roads and low-lying bridges to prevent vehicles from being swept away by rising waters.

In light of the severe weather conditions, faith-based organizations are reminded to postpone baptism and cleansing rituals during thunderstorms to ensure the safety of congregants, who could be in harm's way while conducting these ceremonies.

COJEMS, along with its Disaster Management Monitoring Teams and Aquatic Rescue Unit, is on high alert and actively monitoring all seven regions of the City of Johannesburg for any emergencies that may arise.

For any life-threatening emergencies, residents are urged to contact the Emergency Services Call Centre at 011 375 5911. Your safety is paramount; please remain cautious and informed as the weather continues to affect our city.
