Seven heavily armed African males are alleged to have made a hole in order to enter the local spaza shop in order to rob the owner in Bramfischerville on 30 April.
The suspects pointed firearms and threaten the shop owner demanding him for money. Suspects further searched him before escaping with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes.
The man alerted his neighbour a member of the police who immediately alerted his colleagues who responded to the scene swiftly.
“When the suspects noticed the member they started exchanging shots with him. In the process one suspect was shot and was taken to the hospital under police guard,” said Constable Vusi Thokwan, spokesperson for Dobsonville SAPS.
Thokwan explained that during the arrest, the police confiscated two firearms and an empty cartridge, which will be taken to ballistics assessment to establish if the firearms were not previously used in other serious crimes.
Dobsonville SAPS, station commander Brigadier Ngubane commended police for quick response and well executed arrest with no fear.
The seven suspects appeared at the Protea Magistrates Court and remain in custody.
