Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders as Eldorado Park Learners Step Into Leadership Roles

Young leaders at Eldorado Park Secondary School were given an opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills during a two day Student Leadership Programme facilitated by Come Back Mission in partnership with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc (MUFG). The programme, held over the weekend of 7 and 8 March, was aimed at preparing learners to serve effectively as members of the Representative Council of Learners while strengthening their confidence and sense of responsibility within the school community.

The initiative took place at the school and brought together learners identified as aspiring leaders in a structured and engaging environment. According to Come Back Mission facilitator Pastor Kester Fisher, the programme was designed to respond to the need for value driven leadership among young people at a time when schools play a crucial role in shaping future citizens. The focus, Pastor Fisher said, was on developing leadership that is grounded in integrity, accountability, and service to others.

Throughout the two days, participants took part in a combination of structured workshops and interactive sessions that encouraged open discussion and active participation. Learners were guided through topics such as leadership character, personal responsibility, and effective communication, while being challenged to reflect on the kind of leaders they aspire to become. Emphasis was placed on understanding leadership not as authority, but as responsibility and example.

Team building activities formed a central part of the programme, allowing learners to work together, build trust, and develop problem solving skills. These exercises highlighted the importance of collaboration and unity, particularly within the context of representing fellow learners. Pastor Fisher noted that leadership within a school environment requires cooperation and mutual respect, as student leaders often serve as a bridge between learners and educators.

A key objective of the programme was to equip participants with practical tools to confidently represent their peers and address challenges within the school setting. Through guided discussions and scenario based learning, learners explored conflict resolution, ethical decision making, and constructive ways to engage with issues affecting the learner body.

The response from participants was highly positive, with many learners expressing increased confidence and a clearer understanding of their potential to influence positive change. The programme provided a platform for young people to find their voice and recognise their role in shaping a supportive and inclusive school culture.

Come Back Mission continues to prioritise youth empowerment through initiatives that encourage growth, leadership, and active citizenship. Pastor Fisher reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to investing in young people, describing them as vital partners in building stronger schools and healthier communities.
