Life sentence plus 65 years imprisonment for the accused who shoot dead crime fighter, Areff Bawa on August 11, 2010, in Lenasia. The accused was
convicted on March 19, 2013 at the Palmridge Magistrates Court in
Alberton, south of Johannesburg
Shahim Ismail, Bawa’s brother from court said, “The guy who
killed Areff Bawa from SA Rangers is convicted. This proves that we crime
fighters will fight to the end. Thank you to all who supported me and my
family.”
Bawa sister Rehana in a soft voice said, “Areff was a goodhearted soul that did well for everyone and expected nothing in return. He loved
his family and literally gave his life for our safety,”
She added that the best way to describe Bawa is, an angel and she would do anything to see him one more time.
“If my brother was given a second chance, he would probably
give his life up in the same way,” Rehana concluded.

Solutions (ESS) described Bawa as ‘respected by all for being a gentleman’.
Bawa’s death left behind many scars on the residents of
Lenasia. Bawa was the owner of SA
Rangers Security before he succumbed to his death when shot dead during a
robbery. Three of the four criminals were also shoot dead on scene in Ext 7,
Lenasia.
His brother Ismail, along with other security personnel’s
was part of the incident, while fighting crime to catch these criminals. But
sadly, noon called for the death of Bawa.
A week later Zaakirah Vadi, (Sub-Editor) of Rising Sun,
wrote a story of the entire situation, which was just barbaric and gruesome.
Ismail, expressed his anger that during the time of the
shooting there were 60 witnesses, but came to this year, 54 faded away and
there were only six left to testify against the suspect after long battles.
It is alleged that the accused was serving parole in 2010
when Bawa was killed.
Bawa was married, and left behind his brother Shahim, three sister’s
Rehana, Ziboon and Shereen, wife, mother, nieces and nephews who had no closure
for more then two years after constant running to court for the hearing of the
accused till the accused was finally sentenced for life plus 65 years.
