SA and Mozambique’s Most Wanted Kidnapping Kingpin Fatally Shot

A notorious kidnapping kingpin, known by the alias Dollarman, was fatally shot on Wednesday, 3 September 2025, during a police operation near the R21 highway in Kempton Park.

While the SAPS's Anti-Kidnapping Task Team successfully rescued an Indian businessman and reunited him with his family following an armed confrontation with the alleged mastermind behind the abduction.

The businessman, who had been kidnapped in July from his business premises in Benoni, was located in a shack in Alexandra shortly after midnight on Thursday, 4 September 2025.

"His rescue followed a shootout during which the alleged mastermind was fatally wounded by SAPS officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening," said SAPS national spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

The suspect, widely known as Dollarman, was a wanted figure in both South Africa and Mozambique, where he featured on Mozambique’s national wanted persons list (SERNIC) for his involvement in multiple kidnapping-for-ransom cases.

"In South Africa, he was linked to at least five kidnapping-for-ransom cases, along with charges related to housebreaking, carjacking, and the possession of unlicensed firearms," Brigadier Mathe added.

Since July 2021, the SAPS Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has arrested over 337 individuals involved in kidnapping activities and recovered more than 146 illegal firearms from related crime scenes.

In the past week alone, SAPS has arrested more than 14,773 suspects for various crimes, including murder and rape, and seized at least 163 illegal firearms as part of *Operation Shanela*.
